Intro

Hello everyone, I’m Secy Cheung, Founding Board Director of the FutureGen Girls Foundation.

Many people feel that life is full of unexpected challenges that make the journey of pursuing dreams incredibly difficult. However, every moment in life holds the possibility of making dreams come true.

In this episode, we are delighted to welcome Kearen Pang to share her journey of pursuing her dreams and how she uses her dreams to inspire others. Kearen is a renowned multi-disciplinary artist in Hong Kong, excelling as a playwright, director, performer, and educator.

She began her career as a stage actress with the famous Hong Kong theatre company Chung Ying Theatre. Later, she established her own production company, where she wrote, directed, and performed in over 100 theatrical works. She then transitioned into film directing, earning widespread acclaim as one of Hong Kong’s most talented cross-media creators.

In 2008, Kearen won the Best Actress in a Comedy/Farce award at the Hong Kong Drama Awards for her second solo show, Goodbye, My Love. In 2014, she was named one of Hong Kong’s Ten Outstanding Young Persons. In 2017, her directorial debut film, 29+1, won the Best Director of a Foreign Language Feature award at the Nice International Film Festival in France. The following year, she also won the Best New Director award at the 37th Hong Kong Film Awards for the same film.

Now, let’s listen to Kearen as she shares her journey from being an actress to conquering a bigger stage.

Outro

Kearen’s works have accompanied the growth of many people, including myself. At different stages of life, every time I revisit her creations, they resonate differently—sometimes even hitting emotional sore spots.

Behind the applause and tears of her audience, Kearen reminds us that failure is not something to fear. By staying true to herself, continually working hard, and embracing new challenges, she transforms setbacks into growth and creates endless possibilities for life.

To me, it’s not about starting over from zero each time but recognising that every step we’ve taken is laying the foundation for our future. So even if we don’t achieve the results we want in the moment, we should never underestimate our efforts or doubt ourselves. The impact we create in the end may far exceed our imagination.

Just like Kearen, who started with a dream to become an actress and grew into a playwright, director, educator, and even a leader of a volunteer group. She uses drama as a tool not only for art but also to give back to society. Though her roles have changed, her passion and dreams remain steadfast.

Through various forms of media, Kearen brings her ideas into the hearts of audiences, inspiring countless people. What Kearen embodies is exactly what we mean by Dream, Lead, Make an Impact.
