DreamTeller Interview Series: Adventures from Writing to Film Directing - Norris Wong
Intro
Hello everyone, I’m Secy Cheung, Founding Board Director of the FutureGen Girls Foundation.
In this episode, we’re honoured to have Norris Wong Yee Lam as our guest. Norris’s directorial debut, The Secret Diary of a Mom-to-Be, which she also wrote, premiered in 2019. This film earned her the Best Screenplay award at the 26th Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards and the Best New Director award at the 39th Hong Kong Film Awards.
This year, Norris adapted her own book I Wish to Be an Illiterate Lyricist into the semi-autobiographical film Lyrics L, which chronicles her journey of pursuing her dream to become a professional lyricist.
Let’s hear Norris share how she took one step at a time to accomplish a dream she never imagined she could achieve.
Outro
It’s truly unbelievable—less than 24 hours before this interview with Norris, she won the Best Original Film Song award at the 42nd Hong Kong Film Awards as a lyricist.
We’ve witnessed a 20-year journey of chasing a dream and finally making it come true. The same dream can have different interpretations at various stages of life. So, there’s no such thing as a person with hidden talent going unrecognised—only those with talent who fail to put in the effort.
Stay tuned for more interviews in the Dream Teller series. We’ll continue to invite guests from various industries and professions to share their stories. I wonder who our next Dream Teller will be?
